Abstract: An optical device (20) includes a light source (22), which is configured to emit a beam of light at a given wavelength, and at least one scanning mirror (26) configured to scan the beam across a target scene (24). Light collection optics include a collection optic (32) positioned to receive the light from the scene that is reflected from the at least one scanning mirror and to focus the collected light onto a focal plane (34), and a non-imaging optical element (21, 60) including a solid piece of a material that is transparent at the given wavelength, having a front surface (37, 62) positioned at the focal plane of the collection lens and a rear surface through which the guided light is emitted from the material in proximity to a sensor (38), so that the collected light is guided through the material and spread over the detection area of the sensor.

Abstract: A scanning device (20) includes a planar scanning mirror (28) disposed within a frame (26) and having a reflective upper surface (30). A pair of flexures (34) have respective first ends connected to the frame and respective second ends connected to the mirror at opposing ends of a rotational axis (36) of the mirror. A rotor (38) including a permanent magnet is disposed on the lower surface of the mirror. A stator (24) includes first and second cores (40, 42) disposed in proximity to the rotor on opposing first and second sides of the rotational axis and first and second coils (44, 46) of wire wound respectively on the cores. A drive circuit (50) drives the first and second coils with respective electrical currents including a first component selected so as to control a transverse displacement of the mirror and a second component selected so as to control a rotation of the mirror about the rotational axis.

Abstract: A scanning device (64, 220, 230) includes a substrate (68), which is etched to define an array of two or more parallel rotating members (102) and a gimbal (72, 232) surrounding the rotating members. First hinges (106, 234) connect the gimbal to the substrate and defining a first axis of rotation, about which the gimbal rotates relative to the substrate. Second hinges (74) connect the rotating members to the support and defining respective second, mutually-parallel axes of rotation of the rotating members relative to the support, which are not parallel to the first axis.
