An apparatus, system, and method for selecting a connection for a real time application. In one embodiment, a mobile device may communicate with a cellular network over a cellular connection and a WLAN network over a WLAN connection. The mobile device may determine one or more network parameters of the cellular network or the WLAN network, which may affect power consumption of the mobile device. Based on the network parameter(s), the mobile device may select the WLAN connection for use in a real-time application of the mobile device.
Abstract:
A method for delaying network reselection by a wireless communication device following a call failure is provided. The method can include determining an initiation of a voice call while connected to a first network. The method can further include participating in a circuit switched fallback (CSFB) procedure to transition from the first network to a second network in response to initiation of the voice call. The method can additionally include determining an occurrence of a call failure of the voice call. The method can also include, responsive to the call failure, barring reselection to the first network for a threshold barring period.
Abstract:
A method for facilitating reselection by a wireless communication device to a first network from a second network after termination of a voice call for which a CSFB procedure was performed is provided. The method can include performing measurement of the first network while connected to the first network and performing measurement of the second network during the voice call. The method can further include determining based at least in part on one or more of the measurements that the wireless communication device is in a mobility state. The method can additionally include deriving a predicted signal quality of the first network after termination of the voice call based at least in part on the measurement of the first network and using the predicted signal quality to determine whether to release a connection to the second network and attempt reselection to the first network.
Abstract:
A method to select members of a transmission set in a wireless network including receiving a list of network nodes included in a measurement set provided by a serving node is provided. The method includes determining received measurement values associated with the network nodes included in the measurement set and sorting the determined received measurement values in decreasing order. The method includes selecting transmission set cluster members having a determined received measurement value according to a threshold and providing channel status information (CSI) feedback on a plurality of network nodes included in the transmission set to the serving node in the wireless network.

Adaptive channel estimation technique selection for coordinated multipoint (CoMP) cellular communication in a wireless user equipment (UE) device. A channel estimation technique according to which to perform channel estimation may be determined, from at least two possible channel estimation techniques, for each respective cell of a plurality of cells. Channel estimation may be performed on each respective cell of the plurality of cells according to the determined channel estimation technique for the respective cell. Multipoint channel state information may be generated based on the channel estimates for the plurality of cells. The multipoint channel state information may be transmitted to a first cell in a wireless manner. The multipoint channel state information may be used to select a CoMP joint transmission cluster for the UE.

A method to adapt a set of multi-point channel estimation filters for use in wireless communications including measuring a plurality of reception values is provided. Each reception value included in the plurality of reception values associated with one of the network nodes. The method includes sorting the plurality of reception values according to magnitude and determining a select reception value. The method includes selecting a particular network node from the set of network nodes based on the reception value. The reception value is within a threshold from the select reception value. The method includes adjusting the length of a multi-point channel estimation filter associated with the particular network node. The adjusting the length is based on a lookup table and on the reception value associated with the particular network node, according to some embodiments. User equipment in a wireless network adapted for the above method is also provided.

A wireless device may determine (502) a current location of the wireless device. The wireless device may determine (504) cells associated with the current location of the wireless device. Application context based metric information may be determined (506) for the cells associated with the current location of the wireless device. The wireless device may determine (508) a cell with which to associate from the cells associated with the current location of the wireless device based at least in part on the application context based metric information.
