Abstract:
An electronic device including a processor, at least one sensor in communication with the processor, wherein the processor is configured to determine an orientation of the device and drop event based on input from the at least one sensor. The electronic device further includes a motor in communication with the processor and a mass operably connected to the motor. The processor is configured to drive the motor when a drop event is determined and the mass is configured to rotate with respect to the motor to alter the orientation of the device.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure provide an optical encoder for an electronic device. The optical encoder includes a spindle and an encoded pattern disposed around a circumference of the spindle. The encoded pattern may include one or more surface features that create a direction-dependent reflective region.
Abstract:
This relates to a device that detects a user's motion and gesture input through the movement of one or more tendons of the user's hand, arm, wrist, and fingers, for example, to provide commands to the device or to other devices. The device can be attached to, resting on, or touching the user's wrist, ankle or other body part. One or more optical sensors, inertial sensors, mechanical contact sensors, and myoelectric sensors can detect movements of the user's body. Based on the detected movements, a user gesture can be determined. The device can interpret the gesture as an input command, and the device can perform an operation based on the input command. By detecting movements of the user's body and associating the movements with input commands, the device can receive user input commands through another means in addition to, or instead of, voice and touch input, for example.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to methods and apparatuses for detecting gestures on a reduced-size electronic device at locations off of the display, such as gestures on the housing of the device or on a rotatable input mechanism (e.g., a digital crown) of the device, and responding to the gestures by, for example, navigating lists of items and selecting items from the list; translating the display of an electronic document; or sending audio control data to an external audio device.
Abstract:
An electronic device has a housing (114) and a rotatable and translatable input mechanism (110). The housing (114) has an aperture and the rotatable and translatable input mechanism (110) has a shaft (240) positioned at least partially within the aperture and a manipulation structure coupled to the shaft (240). The manipulation structure (148) may be manipulated to rotationally and translationally move the shaft (240) to provide rotational and translational input to the electronic device. A compressible seal (271) is positioned in a gap between the housing and the rotatable and translatable input mechanism (110). The compressible seal (271) may resist and/or prevent passage of contaminants into the aperture and/or obscure one or more internal components. The compressible seal (271) may be configured to collapse or bend when the rotatable and translatable member translates.
