Abstract:
A housing for a personal electronic device includes a first housing portion, a second housing portion, and a pivoting member pivotally attached to the second housing portion. The first housing portion defines a first plane and has a first support member arranged thereon at a first angle to the first plane. The first support member includes at least one through hole for engaging a fastener. The second housing portion defines a second plane and has a second support member arranged thereon at a second angle to the second plane. The second support member includes at least one retaining hole configured to align with the at least one through hole and retain the fastener. The pivoting member is configured to pivot between at least two positions to obscure the fastener.
Abstract:
Apparatus, systems and methods for characteristics of glass components through use of one or more coatings are disclosed. The coatings are typically thin coatings, such as thin film coatings. The coatings can serve to increase strength of the glass components and/or provide durable user interfacing surfaces. Accordingly, glass articles that have received coatings are able to be not only thin but also sufficiently strong so as to resist damage from impact events. The coated glass articles are well suited for use in consumer products, such as consumer electronic devices (e.g., electronic devices).
Abstract:
This relates to a device that detects a user's motion and gesture input through the movement of one or more tendons of the user's hand, arm, wrist, and fingers, for example, to provide commands to the device or to other devices. The device can be attached to, resting on, or touching the user's wrist, ankle or other body part. One or more optical sensors, inertial sensors, mechanical contact sensors, and myoelectric sensors can detect movements of the user's body. Based on the detected movements, a user gesture can be determined. The device can interpret the gesture as an input command, and the device can perform an operation based on the input command. By detecting movements of the user's body and associating the movements with input commands, the device can receive user input commands through another means in addition to, or instead of, voice and touch input, for example.
Abstract:
A modular material antenna assembly is provided that includes an antenna block having a portion with a shape that interlocks with a corresponding portion of an electrically non-conductive frame and secures the antenna block to the electrically non-conductive frame. The electrically non-conductive frame is attached to an interior of an electrically conductive housing so that the electrically non-conductive frame and the electrically conductive housing form an integrated structure. An antenna flex is then mechanically secured to the antenna block. The antenna flex may also be electrically connected to a circuit board. The frame is designed to support a cover glass for the portable electronic device and may be affixed to a housing. The dielectric constant of the antenna block is substantially less than the dielectric constant of the frame.
Abstract:
An electronic device is provided with a display and a light sensor that receives light that passes through the display. The display includes features that increase the amount of light that passes through the display. The features may be translucency enhancement features that allow light to pass directly through the display onto a light sensor mounted behind the display or may include a light-guiding layer that guides light through the display onto a light sensor mounted along an edge of the display. The translucency enhancement features may be formed in a reflector layer or an electrode layer for the display. The translucency enhancement features may include microperforations in a reflector layer of the display, a light-filtering reflector layer of the display, or a reflector layer of the display that passes a portion of the light and reflects an additional portion of the light.
Abstract:
An electronic device (10) is provided with a display (14) and a solar cell ambient light sensor (40) that receives light through a portion of the display. The solar cell ambient light sensor may include one or more thin-film photovoltaic cells. A voltage that accumulates within the thin-film photovoltaic cell in response to ambient light is sampled and converted into ambient light data. The device includes control circuitry (42, 48) that modifies the intensity of display light generated by the display based on the ambient light data from the photovoltaic cell. The solar cell ambient light sensor is attached to a transparent cover layer, a color filter layer, or any other layer of the display. When the accumulated voltage is not being sampled for ambient light measurements, the voltage may be used to provide charge to a battery (54) in the device.

Abstract:
One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed to a wearable electronic device. The wearable electronic device includes an enclosure having a sidewall with a button aperture defined therethrough, a display connected to the enclosure, a processing element in communication with the display. The device also includes a sensing element in communication with the processing element and an input button at least partially received within the button aperture and in communication with the sensing element, the input button configured to receive two types of user inputs. During operation, the sensing element tracks movement of the input button to determine the two types of user inputs.
Abstract:
An electronic device and an attachment element that includes one or more electronic components each include connection mechanisms. The connection mechanisms of the electronic device and the attachment element may be engaged to mechanically and electrically connect the electronic device and the attachment element. Such electrical connection may electrically couple the one or more electrical components of the attachment element to the electronic device. The connection mechanisms may utilize one or more of a variety of different mechanical connection mechanism such as one or more snap mechanisms, twist mechanisms, threaded mechanisms, detent mechanisms, spring mechanisms, slide mechanisms, magnetic mechanisms, and/or any other mechanism for mechanical and electrical attachment.
