Abstract: Disclosed are novel immunochemical reagents including non-neurotoxic peptides having amino acid sequence homology to residues 254 to 280 of the gp120 glycoprotein of HIV-IIIB and antibodies thereto that are capable of in vitro inhibition of HIV-1 infectivity. The peptides and antibodies are useful in diagnostic assays and as active components of vaccine compositions for active and passive vaccination procedures.
