Abstract: A beverage heating and cooling device (10) has at least one removable beverage container holding chamber (52A). Each chamber has a spring mechanism assembly (80) to bias a beverage container against a heat transfer member (30) protruding through the chamber-side-wall opening (66). An electronic controller (100) controls the operation of a thermoelectric heating and cooling element (20) connected to the heat transfer member (30). The controller (100) has a thermal fuse (F1) to protect the device from overheating in the event that the thermal switches (TSC) fail to maintain the heat transfer member (30) at a desired temperature range. When used in a motor vehicle with the ignition off, an automatic timer within the controller (100) shuts off the unit after a predetermined time to conserve power.
