Abstract: The present invention is a window regulator mechanism for moving a window panel mounted within a motor vehicle door. The mechanism comprises an elongated guide rail (18) member mounted within the vehicle door. A window moving structure (94) engages the window panel and is slidably mounted on the guide rail member (18) to allow the window panel to be moved generally vertically with respect to the vehicle door. A manually operated actuating mechanism slidably moves the window moving structure (94) along the guide rail member (18). An elongated, flexible counterbalancing member (90) is constructed and arranged to apply a counterbalancing force to the window panel that opposes a force of gravity acting on the window panel. The counterbalancing member has a first end (96) fixedly attached within the motor vehicle door, a second end (92) fixedly attached to the window moving structure (94), and an intermediate portion extending over a guiding portion (102) disposed above an uppermost position of the window moving structure. The counterbalancing member is formed from a flexible elastomeric material and is elastically deformed to an initial elastically deformed state when the window moving structure is in its uppermost position. The counterbalancing member is configured to elastically deform beyond its initial elastically deformed state as the window panel moves downwardly with respect to the vehicle door against the counterbalancing force of the counterbalancing member to thereby oppose the force of gravity acting on the window panel and thereby provide a controlled, downward movement of the window panel. The counterbalancing member resiliently returns to its initial elastically deformed state as the window panel moves upwardly with respect to the vehicle door. The counterbalancing member applies the counterbalancing force to oppose the force of gravity acting on the window panel as the window panel moves upwardly to thereby facilitate upward movement of the window panel.

Abstract: The present invention is a window regulator mechanism for vertically moving a window panel mounted within a motor vehicle door. The mechanism comprises an elongated guide rail member (18) mounted within the vehicle door and having a base portion (66) with a pair of side flange portions (56, 62). A first of the pair of side flange portions (56, 62) has a nose portion (60) extending laterally outwardly therefrom. A second of the pair of side flange portions (56, 62) has a convex exterior surface (84). A window moving structure (17) engages the window panel and has a base member and a pair of side leg portions (48) extending from opposing sides thereof. One of the side leg portions has a nose-receiving groove (58) formed in an inwardly facing surface thereof. The window moving structure is slidably mounted on the guide rail member. A manually operable actuating mechanism is constructed to slidably move the window moving structure vertically along the guide rail member. The nose portion (60) of the guide rail member is received within the nose-receiving groove (58) of the window moving structure and the convex exterior surface (84) of the guide rail member (18) is slidably engaged with an inwardly facing surface (54) of another of the side leg portions (48) of the window moving structure (17) opposite the nose-receiving groove such that: a) relative pivotal movement between the guide rail member (18) and the window moving structure (17) about a fixed pivot axis (P) extending longitudinally through the nose-portion (60) is permitted and b) relative movement between the guide rail member (18) and the window moving structure (17) in a radial direction with respect to the fixed pivot axis (P) is substantially restricted to thereby reduce vibrations which occur as a result of forcibly moving the vehicle door into closing engagement with a motor vehicle body.

Abstract: A window regulator assembly comprising a window panel (12), a track (18), a slider member (17), a slider moving assembly (21), including a drive assembly (20) and a coupling assembly (23). The coupling assembly (23) of the slider moving assembly (21) is constructed and arranged to couple an output movement of the drive assembly (20) to the slider member (17). The drive assembly (20) includes a drivable input structure (112) and a driven output structure (114), which structures are rotatable about a common axis. The drive assembly includes roller (128) and spring (130) members disposed within a housing (126) and constructed and arranged to prevent movement of the output structure (114) upon predetermined external force being applied thereto via the coupling assembly (23). The output structure (114) has ramp surfaces (149) each converging toward the housing (126). Each of the ramp surfaces (149) frictionally engages an associated one of the rollers (128), the rollers (128) being biased by the spring members (130) in a converging surface direction towards the converging surfaces between the ramp surfaces (149) and the housing (126). The wedging relation of the rollers (128) between the ramp surfaces (149) and the housing (126) prevents movement of the output structure (114) upon application of the predetermined external force being applied thereto. The input structure (112) is rotatable to engage the rollers (128) upon application of the external driving force and thereby move the rollers (128) against the bias of the spring members (130) and away from the converging surface direction, so that continued driven movement of the input structure (112) is received by the output structure (114) so that the output structure (114) is thereby driven to move the slider member (17) and thus the window panel (12) via the coupling assembly (23).
