Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag cushion capable of weakening forward extrusion of an airbag and improving the flow of inflation gas in the radial direction or the transverse direction. SOLUTION: An airbag cushion body (50) having an inflator opening (60) is provided on an airbag cushion to be used for an airbag device having an inflator to inflate the airbag cushion, and a deflecting panel (100) is mounted on the airbag cushion body. The deflecting panel is arranged so that inflation gas from the inflator is at least partly deflected during the inflation of the airbag cushion. A plurality of arms (112, 114, 116, 118) extending radially outward from the inflator opening are provided on the deflecting panel so that the inflation gas is deflected at least partly through these arms, and passes through a tunnel for inflation gas specified by the airbag cushion body and the arms. Abstract: An airbag deflection mount for mounting an airbag cushion to an airbag module and for deflecting hot inflation gas away from a throat of the airbag cushion. The airbag deflection mount includes a generally flat retainer ring for securing a collar of the airbag cushion around an inflator of the airbag module that produces and expels the inflation gas from a plurality of inflation ports for inflating the airbag cushion upon a vehicle collision. The airbag deflection mount also includes a plurality of deflectors extending upwardly from the retainer ring and positionable, spaced-apart from the inflator, between the plurality of inflation ports of the inflator and the throat of the airbag cushion. The plurality of deflectors deflect hot inflation gas away from the throat of the airbag cushion and substantially prevent the throat of the airbag cushion from being burned by the hot inflation gas.

Abstract: Enhanced airbag modules and methods of manufacture are provided. An airbag module according to the invention may have a cushion with an inflator insertion portion through which an inflator can be inserted into the cushion after the cushion has been substantially assembled. The inflator insertion portion may have an elongated opening, which may be oriented generally along a radius of the cushion. The elongated opening may have a comparatively narrow central portion, with first and second ends that may also be narrow, or may be widened for tear restriction and/or venting. All or part of the elongated opening may be covered by a flap that restricts gas flow through the elongated opening during deployment of the cushion.

Abstract: The mounting (10) fastens an airbag cushion to an air bag module (40). The module has an inflating device (44) with a side wall (48), which defines several spaced apart inflation holes (50), and a module base plate (42) which encompasses the side wall below the inflation holes. The airbag cushion has a neck section (54) which encompasses the side wall, and a collar (56) which is fitted on the base plate so that the airbag cushion is inflated by gas flowing from the inflation holes. The mounting has a mounting ring (12), which can be fitted on the collar. The mounting ring can be fixed to the base plate so that the collar is clamped between the ring and the base plate. Several space deflectors (26) extend upwards from the distal end of the mounting ring and are arranged between the top face of the side wall and the neck section of the airbag cushion, to deflect hot gas or particles entering from the inflation device through the holes from the neck of the airbag cushion.
