    Abstract: A system and method enhanced collaboration through teleportation or transition. A system used to moderate an enhanced collaboration environment for at least a set of participants, comprising a server (310, Figure 3) for facilitating a 2-D federated collaboration environment (340, Figure 3) for the at least one set of participants; a server (320, Figure 3) for facilitating a 3-D virtual collaboration environment (350, Figure 3) for the at least one selected set of participants; and a gateway server (315, Figure 3) for facilitating teleportation or transition of at least two participants of the at least one set of participants from the 2-D federated collaboration environment to form a teleported collaboration group in the 3-D virtual collaboration environment. The 3-D virtual collaboration environment may be a virtual world wherein the users are represented by avatars which can interact. Teleportation/transition services may be launched in the federated 2-D server 504, participants may be selected for teleportation and well as a meeting location for the teleportation 508, the federation server may further launch gateway instances to every selected participant 512 and the 3-D server may be instructed to take the selected participants to the meeting location and begin the 3-D virtual collaboration environment/session 522, 530. Collaboration embodiments are wide and examples include document or media sharing or exchange, group chat/discussion. The 3-D virtual world is not constrained by the physical limitations of the hardware of each individual user and may be presented as room with a wide range of facilities depending on the particular application. One particular example is transition between a Google Wave (RTM), 2-D, environment to a Web.alive (now Avayalive), 3-D, environment.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a visual indication of audio context in a computer-generated virtual environment is provided. In one embodiment, visual indicators of which other Avatars are within communication distance of an Avatar may be generated and provided to the user associated with the Avatar. The visual indication may be provided for Avatars within the viewing area regardless of whether the other Avatar is visible or not. The visual indication may be provided for Avatars outside of the viewing area as well. When Avatars are engaged in a communication session, an indication of which Avatars are involved as well as which Avatar is currently speaking may be provided. Context may be user specific and established for each user of the virtual environment based on the location of that user's Avatar within the virtual environment and the relative location of other users' Avatars within the virtual environment.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a state indication on a voice communication session such as a telephone call or communication session implemented as part of a virtual environment enables the quality of the audio on the voice communication session to be altered depending on the state of the communication session. When the communication session is in a state other than normal state, the audio may be colored in a particular manner so that the user can tell, from the quality of the audio, what state the communication session is in. For example, when the client device is on Mute, the audio may be colored to enable the audio to have distinct qualities while on mute that are different than the audio qualities while not on mute. Other types of coloration may be used to indicate other states. In this way, the audio qualities presented to the user may be used to notify the user of the state the communication session.
