Abstract:
A digital multimedia newsroom production system allows users of the system to create, browse and catalog multimedia assets. The system includes a multimedia capture and encoding system that captures multimedia data, and substantially simultaneously provides a first compressed version of the multimedia data having a first resolution, and a second compressed version of the multimedia data having a second resolution that is different from the first resolution; a multimedia storage system, coupled to the multimedia capture and encoding system, that stores multimedia information including the first and second compressed versions of the multimedia data; and a video editing and playback system coupled to the multimedia storage system. The video editing and playback system includes editing circuitry that generates a composition that uses a portion of the first compressed version, and playback circuitry that plays the composition using a portion of the second compressed version that corresponds to the portion of the first compressed version. The multimedia storage system stores multimedia information including the compressed versions of the multimedia data, and provides to a network the first compressed version of the multimedia data substantially simultaneously as the first compressed version is stored.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) indicating the position of an adjustable lever (18), such as a control lever in a digital audio console, is described. A frame member (12, 13, 15, 17) constrains movement of the adjustable lever (18). The lever is operatively connected to an encoder apparatus (22), such that movement of the lever (18) causes movement of the encoder apparatus (22) to provide an indication of position of the lever (18) within the frame member (12, 13, 15, 17).
Abstract:
The method for adjusting quality during image capture includes computing a discrete cosine transform of a digital image to create DCT coefficients. A quantization table is generated that specifies frequency bands to be filtered and the DCT coefficients are digitized using the quantization table. It is preferred that the DCT coefficients be ordered in a zig-zag sequence to facilitate run-length encoding.
Abstract:
A data buffer that compensates the differences in data rates, between a storage device and an image compression processor. A method and apparatus for the real time indexing of frames in a video data sequence.
Abstract:
A method and system for comparing a comparison source image to an active project in a viewer, particularly for editing the active project. The comparison source is stored or routed to a comparison buffer, and displayed within a comparison view in the viewer. The comparison view can be sized and positioned as desired to effect the desired editing function.
Abstract:
A video editing method that includes displaying a two-dimensional projection of a representation of a projection surface. This projection is derived from a three-dimensional position of the surface. A handle is displayed attached to the projection, and the position of the surface is updated in a manner corresponding to the displacement of a cursor at the handle. The method further includes displaying a second projection derived from the updated position, and redisplaying the handle attached to it.
Abstract:
A graphics-based visual language is disclosed for authoring and playing a multimedia presentation having one or more multimedia events on a display screen of a computer system. The visual displays a story which displays a representation of a start position, indicating the beginning of a multimedia presentation, an end representation of an end position which indicates the completion of a multimedia presentation, and a representation of a unidirectional path line connecting the start, and the end position representations. The representation of at least one icon is associated with a source of multimedia material and is linked to the path line. The multimedia presentation starts at the start position, plays the multimedia material represented by the at least one icon, and then continues along the unidirectional path line and completes at the end position.
Abstract:
A digital audio/video insertion and broadcast system takes audio/video source information and digitizes, compresses and stores the information. The storage is in a random access medium such as magnetic or optical disks. Playing apparatus decompresses the information and regenerates an analog signal. Patching apparatus inserts the regenerated analog signal into a broadcast or cable channel at preselectable times. Editing apparatus may be provided for editing a stored video file prior to playing.
Abstract:
A digital motion video processing circuit can capture, playback and manipulate digital motion video information using the system memory of a computer as a data buffer for holding compressed video data from the circuit. The system memory may be accessed by the circuit over a standard bus. A controller in the circuit directs data flow between an input/output port which transfer a stream of pixel data and to the standard bus. The controller directs data to and from either the standard bus or the input/output port through processing circuitry for compression, decompression, scaling and buffering. The standard bus may be a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus. The motion video processing circuit has a data path including pixel data and timing data indicative of a size of an image defined by the pixel data. The timing data is used and/or generated by each component which processes the pixel data, thereby enabling each component to process the pixel data without prior knowledge of the image format. By having processors for handling two compression formats for motion video data connected to this data path, conversion between compression formats, such as between MPEG to Motion JPEG, can be performed.
