Abstract: Implementations described herein generally relate to flexible display devices, and more specifically to flexible cover lens films. The flexible cover lens film has improved strength, elasticity, optical transmission, and anti-abrasion properties. The flexible cover lens film comprises a multi-layer hardcoat disposed on a substrate layer. The substrate layer has a thickness between 2 μm to 100 μm, and the multi-layer hardcoat has a thickness between 1 μm to 10 μm. The multi-layer hardcoat comprises a first layer deposited using a wet deposition process, a second layer deposited using a dry deposition process, and one or more adhesion promotion layers. Abstract: A method of surface mounting micro-devices includes adhering a first plurality of micro-devices on a donor substrate to a transfer surface with an adhesive layer, removing the first plurality of micro-devices from donor substrate while the first plurality of micro-devices remain adhered to the transfer surface, positioning the transfer surface relative to a destination substrate so that a subset of the plurality of micro-devices on the transfer surface abut a plurality of receiving positions on the destination substrate, the subset including one or more micro-devices but less than all of micro-devices of the plurality of micro-devices, selectively neutralizing one or more of regions of the adhesive layer on the transfer surface corresponding to the subset of micro-device to light to detach the subset of micro-devices from the adhesive layer, and separating the transfer surface from the destination substrate such that the subset of micro-devices remain on the destination substrate.

In one example, an angled ion source is utilized to project ions toward a substrate to form a waveguide which includes angled gratings. In another example, an angled electron beam source is utilized to project electrons toward a substrate to form a waveguide which includes angled gratings. Further aspects of the disclosure provide for methods of forming angled gratings on waveguides utilizing an angled ion beam source and an angled electron beam source.

Abstract: A method of transferring micro-devices includes attaching micro-devices to one surface of a first body with a first adhesive layer, and selectively forming a masking layer on an opposite surface of the first body. A second adhesive layer on a second body is placed to contact the plurality of micro-devices. The first adhesive layer is exposed to illumination through the first body to create a neutralized portion while the masking layer blocks the illumination from reaching some of first adhesive layer to provide a less exposed portion that is more adhesive than the neutralized portion. The first surface is separated from the second surface such micro-devices on the less exposed portion of the first adhesive layer remain attached to the first surface and micro-devices corresponding to the neutralized portion attach to the second body and separate from the first surface.

Abstract: A method of transferring micro-devices includes selectively treating a first adhesive layer to form a treated portion and an untreated portion while micro-devices are attached the first adhesive layer. A second adhesive layer on a second surface is placed to abut the micro-devices. The first adhesive layer is exposed to illumination in a region that overlaps at least some of the treated portion and at least some of the untreated portion. Exposing the first adhesive layer to illumination neutralizes the at least some of the untreated portion to create a neutralized portion that is less adhesive than an exposed area of the treated portion. The first surface is separated from the second surface such that micro-devices in the treated portion remain attached to the first surface and micro-devices in the neutralized portion are attached to the second surface and separate from the first surface.

Abstract: Flexible display devices, such as flexible cover lens films, are discussed and provided herein. The flexible cover lens film has good strength, elasticity, optical transmission, wear resistance, and thermostability. The cover lens film includes a hard coat layer with a thickness from about 5 μm to 40 μm, an impact absorption layer with a thickness from about 20 μm to 110 μm, and a substrate layer with a thickness from about 10 μm to 175 μm and is disposed between the hard coat layer and the impact absorption layer. By combining the hard coat layer and the impact resistant layer, the cover lens film is both flexible and strong with hardness from 6H to 9H.
