    Abstract: Un método de habilitar un aparato para uso en una aeronave (4), comprendiendo el método: habilitar un primer almacén y una primera carga útil, montándose la primera carga útil sobre el primer almacén o alojándose al menos parcialmente dentro de éste, estando destinado el primer almacén a montarse en una superficie externa de la aeronave (4) de tal manera que la combinación del primer almacén y la primera carga útil esté completamente fuera de la aeronave (4); adquirir una o más propiedades aerodinámicas, uno o más momentos de inercia y la distribución de masa de la combinación del primer almacén y la primera carga útil; habilitar un segundo almacén (8) y una segunda carga útil, montándose la segunda carga útil sobre el segundo almacén (8) o alojándose al menos parcialmente dentro de éste, estando destinado el segundo almacén (8) a montarse en una superficie externa de la aeronave (4) de tal manera que la combinación del segundo almacén (8) y la segunda carga útil esté completamente fuera de la aeronave (4), siendo la segunda carga útil diferente de la primera carga útil, comprendiendo la primera carga útil un sensor (12) y/o un medio de proyección, estando destinado el sensor (12) a medir parámetros de una o más entidades que están lejos de la aeronave (4), estando destinado el medio de proyección a proyectar una marca sobre una superficie; y configurar el segundo almacén (8) y la segunda carga útil de tal manera que las una o más propiedades aerodinámicas, los uno o más momentos de inercia y la distribución de masa de la combinación del segundo almacén (8) y la segunda carga útil sean sustancialmente iguales a los de la combinación del primer almacén y la primera carga útil, habilitando así el aparato.

    Abstract: A sensor system 2 is mounted to an aircraft fuselage 4 using an interface 6 comprising a pylon. The sensor system comprises a payload which is substantially housed within a store 8. The payload may include a ram air turbine (RAT) 10, sensors 12, processor 14 and transceiver 16. The aerodynamic properties, moments of inertia and mass distributions of the store are arranged to be the same as those for a store carrying a different payload that has already been certified for the aircraft. It is thus intended that a store can be provided which does not have to go through a certification process for a specific aircraft.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for capturing and processing images of terrain 6, comprising: using each of a plurality of cameras (14, 5 16, 18, 20) to capture an image of a surface of the terrain thereby producing a plurality of camera images. Each camera image comprises a plurality of pixels and are registered to create a plurality of sets of registered pixels, which are then classified. Ground penetrating radar (8), captures a radar image (24) of the terrain and a detection algorithm is performed on the radar image (24) to detect an at least partially subterranean object or a terrain feature (26) in the radar image. The detected object or terrain feature (26) is associated with at least one classified set of registered pixels (28, 30), preferably by projecting at least part of the object or terrain feature and at least one camera image onto a common plane. Classification of the pixel sets may be achieved by determining a spectral signature and comparing it to a spectral stored in a database. Preferably, the frequency range of each camera overlaps at least partially with that of another camera. The camera may respectively detect the following frequencies: ultraviolet, visible light, and infrared.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing image processing, the method comprising: positioning a mark onto a surface (for example, by projecting a laser dot or laser lines onto the surface) then using a first sensor (e.g. a UV camera), generating a first image of the surface with at least a portion of the mark in the first image and a second sensor (e.g. a visible-light camera), to generate a second image of the surface with at least a portion of the mark in the second image. A process is then performed that is dependent upon the respective positions of the at least a portion of the mark in the first image and the second image, namely aligning the two images according to the position of the laser dot. The laser mark may alternatively be in the form of two non-parallel lines and may have a non-symmetrical shape. The alignment process may involve image transformation or movement of the image sensors. Furthermore in an alternative embodiment the laser mark may be projected at different time steps in a time period with each image being captured during separate portions of such a time period and the images may be time-aligned based on the respective positions of the laser mark. The different time steps may be selected by a pseudo random sequence. The sensors may be of different types e.g. UV, Infra-red, visible light and may be mounted in an aircraft.
