Abstract: PCT No. PCT/DE95/01211 Sec. 371 Date Mar. 19, 1997 Sec. 102(e) Date Mar. 19, 1997 PCT Filed Sep. 6, 1995 PCT Pub. No. WO96/09575 PCT Pub. Date Mar. 28, 1996A golf cart or caddy and a mobile transmitting device carried by a golf player are each provided with a receiving and evaluating device equipped with a computer for a satellite-controlled positioning system. The two receiving and evaluating devices calculate the respective positions of the golf player and the golf caddy from the signals cyclically received from the satellite system. The mobile transmitting device is provided with a high-frequency manual transmitter which transmits, also cyclically, the positions of the golf player to the golf caddy. The computer of the golf caddy calculates direction and distance of the golf player and stores the data up to the time when the caddy follows the stored path upon a signal. The golf caddy stops at a predetermined distance from the golf player. When a stationary reference transmitter is additionally used for correcting the position data of the golf player and the golf caddy received from the satellite system, specific areas of the golf course can be excluded as forbidden areas, so that these will not be traveled by the golf caddy.

Abstract: The invention concerns a golf buggy and a mobile transmitter unit which is carried by the golfer. The buggy and the transmitter unit each comprise a receiver~and~evaluating~unit~provided~with~a~computer~for~a~satellite-controlled~positioning~system.~The~two~receiver~and~evaluating~units~calculate~ the~respective~position~of~the~golfer~and~the~buggy~from~the~signals~received~c yclically~from~the~satellite~system.~The~mobile~transmitter~unit~is~provided~wi th~a~high-frequency~hand-held~transmitter~by~means~of~which~the~positions~of~the~golfer~can~likewise~be~ transmitted~cyclically~to~the~buggy.~In~each~case~the~buggy~computer~calculates ~the~direction~and~distance~of~the~golfer~and~stores~these~data~until~it~travel s~the~stored~path~in~response~to~a~signal.~The~buggy~remains~at~a~predetermined ~distance~from~the~golfer.~If~a~stationary~reference~transmitter,~which~correct s~the~golfer~and buggy position data received from the satellite system, is also used, given areas of the golf course can be blocked off as areas in which the buggy may not travel.

Date Feb. 9, 1995An automotive golf caddy has a high frequency position finder and an ultrasonic position finder. When the caddy is placed in readiness by means of a manual transmitter, it first determines whether it receives ultrasonic signals from the manual transmitter. If that is not the case, it determines by high frequency position finding the direction of the manual transmitter and approaches the transmitter on a straight path at a relatively high speed. When the caddy enters the ultrasonic position finding range, it is automatically switched to ultrasonic position finding, follows the manual transmitter even in curves and continuously determines its distance from the transmitter. When a predetermined minimum distance is reached, the motors of the caddy are switched off. It will only follow the transmitter automatically once again when the transmitter reaches a predetermined distance from the caddy. The ultrasonic position finding allows the caddy to be accurately kept at a predetermined minimum distance from the player.
