Abstract: In the wet galvanising of wet articles essentially consisting of iron and whose surface is still contaminated with hydrochloric acid and possibly iron chloride from the pretreatment, the zinc melt is covered with a top flux of molten zinc chloride and alkali metal chloride. The covering is regenerated by adding fluxes which contain ammonium chloride, potassium chloride and, if required, zinc chloride. By adding the regenerating flux, a weight ratio of zinc chloride to alkali metal chloride of 1.5 : 1 to 4 : 1 and a content of oxidic zinc compounds of 10 to 40% by weight, calculated as zinc oxide, are maintained in the top flux.

Abstract: Low-fuming, free-flowing fluxes for sherardising contain from 50 to 90% by weight of alkali metal chlorides and from 10 to 50% by weight of ammonium chloride. In addition they contain, based on the ammonium chloride and alkali metal chloride content, from 0.1 to 1% by weight of magnesium oxide and so much zinc chloride, that the weight ratio of magnesium oxide to zinc chloride is from 1 : 2 to 1 : 10.

Abstract: Dust-free dithionites, esp. Na2S2O4, are prepd. by mixing the dithionites with 0.1-3 (esp. 0.2-0.7) wt.% polypropylene oxides having mol. wt. 50-1200. Dithionites are used as bleaching agents in textiles-, pulp- and paper industry and as reducing agents for vat dyes. Dithionites are stabilised against decompsn. by moisture and air-O2 and can be compacted by pressing. Dust-formation and handling is prevented. The prods. dissolve in water and do not foam when dissolved in dye-baths with stirring.

Abstract: Flange connections having multi-layer apparatus or pipeline parts one below the other, in which corrosive and hot gases are manipulated, consist of an inner lining, which is composed of glass or quartz that is resistant to temperature changes and is surrounded by an external metal jacket, the intermediate space between the outer jacket and the lining being filled with a thermally insulating material. Arranged between the lining and the outer jacket, in the region of the ends of the lining, there are fire-resistant blocks, which surround the lining, are supporting, and do not touch over the complete area, the lining with the fire-resistant blocks terminating at at least one end in a manner which is not flush. The fire-resistant blocks surrounding the lining close at least largely in a flush manner with the outer jacket surrounding them, whose two ends merge into a flange connection.
