    Abstract: Prodn. of low pressure olefin polymers (I) is carried out by polymerisation of the monomers (II) at 5-50 bar and max. 110 deg.C in low boiling hydrocarbons (III) as suspension medium in a polymerisation zone, sepn. of the resultant polymers from most of (III) in a pressure relief zone by reducing the pressure and removing the residual (III) and (II) in a drying zone at 1-1.2 bar by introducing an inert gas (IV) stream. The novel features are that (a) the pressure in the pressure relief zone is reduced to 1.5-3 bar; and the pressure relief and drying zones are connected by a gas-tight bucket wheel lock. Pref. the pressure is reduced to 1.5-2 bar in the pressure relief zone. The drying zone consists of 2 zones in series, both purged with (IV) in countercurrent.

    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of ethylene- alpha -olefin copolymers by catalytic dry-phase copolymerisation of the monomers in a stirred or fluidised polymerisation zone, transfer of the resultant mixture of solid copolymer and unreacted gaseous monomers into a decompression zone, reduction of the pressure of the mixture, separation of the mixture into a gaseous phase and a solid phase, the solid phase being preflushed continuously with gaseous ethylene and subsequently being flushed with a mixture of nitrogen and steam, gives ethylene copolymers which have been very substantially freed from residual monomers, fragrances and flavours.
