Abstract: STABLE CONCENTRATED SOLUTIONS OF ANTHRAQUINONE DYES IN SOLVENTS WHICH ARE MISCIBLE WITH WATER AND WHICH ARE USEFUL FOR THE PREPARATION OF DYE LIQUORS FOR DYEING NATURAL OR SYNTHETIC POLYAMIDES. FOR DYEING OR PRINTING NITROGEN FIBROUS MATERIAL, FOR EXAMPLE WOOL, SILK OR SYNTHETIC POLYAMIDE FIBERS, IT IS PRINCIPALLY ANIONIC DYES WHICH ARE USED. THESE DYES ARE USUALLY SUPPLIED IN THE FORM OF FINELY GROUND POWDERS, CONTAINING STANDARDIZING AGENTS, WHICH HAVE TO BE DISSOLVED OR DISPERSED IN THE DYE LIQUOR FOR DYEING. APART FROM THE UNPLEANSANT DUST DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTENSELY COLORING DYES CAUDES BY THE POWDER FORM AND THE RISK OF AGGLOMERATION OF THE DYE POWDER, IT IS BY NO MEANS EASY TO DISSOLVE OR DISPERSE THE SOLID DYE IN THE DYE LIQUOR BECAUSE THE DYE USUALLY HAS INADEQUATE SOLUBILITY IN WATER.

Abstract: Moulded articles of polyolefins are dyed or printed with water-insoluble dyes that are soluble in organic solvents from aqueous dispersion or organic solution with either simultaneous or prior treatment with a dispersion or solution of a silicon hydrocarbon compound, an alkysiloxane, arylsiloxane, alkylarylsiloxane, alkylpolysiloxane, arylpolysiloxane, alkylarylpolysiloxane or an ester or polyester of silicic acid which silicon compounds are soluble in hydrocarbons. In Example 6 moulded articles of polyethylene are dyed with an aqueous liquor containing polydimethylsiloxane, a dispersed anthraquinone dye and surfactants and in Example 7 the same articles are printed with a solution in methylene chloride of hexyl-azo-naphthalene, tetraethylsilicate, nickel - II - oleate, triethanolamine and a linear polymer from ethyltriethoxysilane (80%) and phenyltriethoxysilane (10%).ALSO:Polyolefin materials are dyed or printed with water-insoluble dyes, which are soluble in organic solvents, from aqueous dispersion or organic solution in a process wherein the material is pretreated with a dispersion or solution of a silicon hydrocarbon compound, an alkylsiloxane, arylsiloxane, alkylarylsiloxane, alkylpolysiloxane, arylpolysiloxane, alkylarylpolysiloxane or an ester or polyester of silicic acid which silicon compounds are soluble in hydrocarbons, or wherein the dyeing or printing is carried out with the co-employment of any of the said silicon compounds. The so-treated material may then be subjected to a heat treatment. The polysiloxanes may be formed in situ with the help of catalysts, e.g. acids, bases or metal salts. The preferred polysiloxanes cross-link when the dye is fixed, again preferably in the presence of metal salts. Examples are given.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for dyeing keratin materials with anionic dyes (especially acid and mordant dyes) in which the aqueous dye liquor contains the following: (a) an anionic assistant; (b) a product obtained by adding 2-15 moles of propylene or butylene oxide and 0-10 moles of ethylene oxide to 1 mole of an alkylphenol having 6-12 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical or of an aliphatic alcohol having 1-20 carbon atoms. (c) an adduct of 1-2 moles of ethylene oxide with 1 mole of an hydroxy compound of benzene or naphthalene which may bear other nonionic radicals on the aromatic nucleus, the dye liquor being applied at temperatures below the drawing temperature of the dyestuff followed by fixing with steam and/or treatment in a hot acid liquor.
