Abstract: Surface-treated superabsorbent polymer particles obtained by mixing 100 parts by weight of superabsorbent polymer particles with 0.001 to 10 parts by weight of a hydroxyalkylurea, and heating the surface-treated superabsorbent polymer particles to crosslink molecular chains existing at least in the vicinity of the surfaces of the superabsorbent polymer particles is disclosed. Surface crosslinking the superabsorbent polymer particles with a hydroxyalkylurea substantially increases both the rate of liquid absorption and the quantity of liquid absorbed and retained by the superabsorbent particles.

Abstract: Surface-crosslinked superabsorbent polymer particles are obtained by treating 100 parts by weight of superabsorbent polymer particles with about 0.001 to about 10 parts by weight of an oxazolinium ion. The oxazolinium ion can be formed in situ by heating superabsorbent particles treated with an oxazolinium ion precursor, such as a hydroxyalkylamide. A stable oxazolinium ion also can be used to surface crosslink the SAP particle. Surface crosslinking the superabsorbent polymer particles with an oxazolinium ion increases both the rate of liquid absorption and the quantity of liquid absorbed and retained by the superabsorbent particles.

Abstract: Se divulgan particulas de polimeros superabsorbentes con tratamiento superficial obtenidas mediante la mezcla de 100 partes en peso de particulas de polimeros superabsorbentes con de 0.001 a 10 partes en peso de una hidroxialquilamida, y el calentamiento de las particulas de polimeros superabsorbentes con tratamiento superficial para reticular cadenas moleculares existentes por lo menos en la cercania de las superficies de las particulas de polimeros superabsorbentes. La reticulacion superficial de las particulas de polimeros superabsorbentes con una hidroxialquilamida incrementa sustancialmente tanto la velocidad de absorcion de liquido como la cantidad de liquido absorbido y retenido por las particulas superabsorbentes.
