    Abstract: 1469682 Liquid acrylic ester coplymers BASF AG 6 Aug 1974 [8 Aug 1973 (2)] 34580/74 Heading C3P A liquid acrylic ester copolymer comprises: (a) 55-97% by weight of an acrylic acid ester of a non-tertiary monohydric alkanol of 3-12 carbon atoms; (b) 3-25% by weight of an acrylic acid alkyl ester and/or a methacrylic acid alkyl ester, each said ester containing at least one hydroxyl group; and (c) 0-20% by weight of a further monoolefinically unsaturated monomer; the average molecular weight of the copolymer being 1,000-10,000 and its pour point being below +15‹ C. Component (6) is preferably an ester of an alkanol or haloalkanol, each having 2-6 carbon atoms and 2 or 3 hydroxyl groups. The optional monomer (c) may be a vinyl ester of a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid of 2-12 carbon atoms; a monovinyl aromatic monomer; a nitrile of an α,#- monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3-5 carbon atoms; or a methacrylic or acrylic acid ester of a tertiary alkanol. The copolymer is preferably produced by copolymerization of an appropriate monomer mixture, using a free-radical catalyst and a regulator, at 100-160‹ C. and at least partly under reduced pressure. In examples are formed the following copolymers: (1) n-butyl acrylate and 1,4- butanediol monoacrylate; (2) n-butyl acrylate and 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate; (3) n-butyl acrylate, styrene and 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate. A pressure-sensitive adhesive may be prepared by reacting: (a) 28-94% by weight of the liquid acrylic ester copolymer of the invention; (b) 5-60% by weight of an amorphous, thermoplastic tackifying resin of softening point 40-140‹ C. and molecular weight 200-7,500; and (c) 1-12% by weight of an organic polyisocyanate.
