    Abstract: The invention relates to an impact resistant, stress cracking- resistant thermoplastic moulding composition comprising, in each case based on A + B, 80 to 55% by weight of a resin matrix comprising a copolymer A of at least one vinylaromatic monomer a11 having 8 to 10 C atoms and at least one comonomer a12, and 45 to 20% by weight of a soft phase B which is uniformly distributed in the hard matrix and has a mean particle diameter d50 (volume average) of from 3.5 to 9 mu m, as obtained by polymerising a mixture of monomers a11 and a12 in the presence of an elastomer with subsequent isolation of the useful product, comonomer a12 being from 0.05 to 5% by weight based on the sum of A and B, of a vinyl-substituted heterocyclic compound with at least one N atom which does not carry a vinyl group.

    Abstract: Moulded compositions comprising a matrix of impact-modified polystyrene and rubber included in the form of discrete particles contain at least 50% by weight of polystyrene A and an effective amount of up to 50% by weight of a graft rubber B. The graft rubber B comprises from 40 to 95% by weight of a rubber-elastic graft core b1 and from 5 to 60% by weight of a graft shell b2, namely from 5 to 50% by weight of a first graft shell b21 comprising styrene and from 50 to 95% by weight of a second graft shell b22 comprising from 60 to 90% by weight of styrene and from 10 to 40% by weight of acrylonitrile, the amounts of A and B, b1 and b2, b21 and b22 and styrene and acrylonitrile in each case adding up to 100% by weight.

    Abstract: Propylene/ethylene block copolymers are prepared by a process in which, in an agitated bed comprising small polymer particles, first (I) propylene is homopolymerized from the gas phase, in a first polymerization zone, by feeding in a Ziegler-Natta catalyst comprising (1) a titanium(III) component and (2) a dialkyl-aluminum chloride component, with or without (3) a further catalyst component, and then (II) the product obtained in the first polymerization zone is fed into a second polymerization zone, where a mixture of propylene and ethylene is polymerized with the propylene homopolymer present in this product. In this process, the Ziegler-Natta catalyst employed contains a titanium(III) component (1) which is prepared by subjecting (1.1) a titanium-containing compound (a) of the formula TiCl3. nAlCl3 and (1.2) an electron donor (b), consisting of (b1) an ester of a particular class or (b2) a phosphorus-containing compound of a particular class, to a special milling procedure, the particular features of which are special metering and temperature conditions, suspending the resulting intermediate in a mixture of a liquid hydrocarbon (c) and an oxygen-containing compound (d), comprising (d1) an ether of a certain class and/or (d2) an ester of a certain class, and then heating the suspension obtained. The solid remaining in suspension is the titanium(III) component (1) which is to be employed for the polymerization. The polymer obtained has improved morphological properties.
