Abstract: Nitroimdazolyivinylthiadiazoles (I, R1 = C1-4 alkyl; R2 = H, CH3; R3 = H, C1-24 alkyl, substitutable ph, heteroallyl) useful agents for treating bacteria, fungi and protozoa, were prepd. by the reaction of 2-substituted-1,3,4-thiadiazole(II) and 5-nitroimidazole-2-carboxaldehyde(III) or its acetal at elevated temp. Thus, 2,5-dimethy 1-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 1-methyl-5-nitroimidazole-2-carboxy aldehyde were refluxed in glacial acetic acid and acetic anhydride in the presence of ZnCl2 for 10 hr and recrystallized with DMF to give -methyl-5-[2-(1-methyl-5-nitroimidazol-2-yl)-vinyl -1,3,4-thiadiazloe(m.p. 248≦̸C).

Abstract: A thermoplastic molding composition based on homopolymers and co-polymers of styrene containing up to 50% by weight of comonomers, which contains as flameproofing agent an organic bromine compound of the general formula where X is a divalent aliphatic, aromatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical of up to 12 carbon atoms and n is 0 or 1. These bromine compounds have a very low volatility and a melting point of above 200.degree.C. The bromine content of the molding composition is from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the molding composition. The composition may be used for the manufacture of selfextinguishing moldings, e.g. foams.
