Abstract: Novel alkali metal-promoted Ag catalysts claimed for use in direct oxidn. of ethylene to ethylene oxide are characterised by (i) having an alpha-Al oxide porous carrier of BET surface area 0.3-3 m2/g; and (ii) contg. tungsten as co-promoter in an amt., based on total catalyst wt., of 60-330 wt. ppm per m2 surface area per g of the carrier material. Ag content is 10-30 wt.% and the alkali metal is Li, Rb and/or Cs with prefd. amts. based on total catalyst wt., being 200-2000 wt.ppm for Cs and/or Rb and 100-1000 wt.ppm for Li. At least 99 wt.% of the carrier is of high-purity alpha-Al oxide.

Abstract: Process for catalytic ultrapurification of inert gases by reacting the oxygen contained therein with hydrogen in the presence of Pd catalysts with subsequent adsorption of the residual oxygen on copper-containing adsorbents and by precipitating the water formed, the hydrogen being added, prior to the reaction, to the inert gas to be purified in periodically fluctuating amounts, in such a way that the hydrogen is present, alternately, in substoichiometric or in excess amounts with respect to the oxygen present. Nitrogen and/or argon can be brought to a purity of less than 10 ppm of impurities, especially oxygen.

Abstract: Imidazoles are prepared by reacting 2-imidazolines at from 250 DEG to 500 DEG C. in the presence of molybdenum oxide and nickel oxide and/or cobalt oxide and aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide and/or silicates as catalysts. The imidazoles obtainable by the process according to the invention are valuable starting materials for the preparation of dyes, crop protection agents, textile auxiliaries, catalysts for polyurethanes and epoxy resins, surfactants and drugs, for example the corresponding nitroimidazoles.
