Bulk solids in a container 1 are mixed by being simultaneously withdrawn from several levels, the material from each level being separately supplied, as by pipes which end at different heights within the container, to a mixing zone 3. As shown, the pipes 2 are concentric and there is an annular space between the outermost pipe and the container wall. Other embodiments may comprise a single pipe divided longitudinally into sectors having apertures at different levels (see Fig. 2, not shown) or a member formed by spirally winding a triangular piece of material and inserting vertical partitions between the convolutions (see Fig. 3, not shown).
