Abstract: PURPOSE: To prepare a foam substance having a small shrinkability, a high compressive strength and a small water absorbability by extruding a mixture of a specific styrene polymer and a blowing agent into a room at a predetermined gage pressure, and then solidifying the foam substance. CONSTITUTION: As a blowing agent, a mixture of a carbon dioxide or a carbon dioxide and 20 wt.% or less of a hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon which is gaseous at a room temperature is used for an amount of 3 to 9 wt.% to a styrene polymer. For example, 100 pts. of a polystyrol, 1.5 pt. of a hexabromocyclododecane and 0.3 pt. of a talc for adjusting a size of a bubble are continuously supplied from an orifice E of an extruder 1, a blowing agent mixture is continuously press injected via an orifice D, homogenized in the extruder, and extruded into a space A at a gage pressure of 0.1 to 2 bars of an atmospheric pressure via a nozzle 2. Then, this foam is guided to a take-off unit 4 via a guide unit 3 coupled to the extruder, thereby generating a foam polystyrol plate.
