Abstract: Block copolymers (I) containing block(s) (A) derived from cyclic conjugated diene monomers and block(s) (B) derived from linear diene monomers, in which the content of 1,4-linkages in at least one block (B) is at least 80% based on the sum of 1,2-, 1,4- and 3,4-linkages. Independent claims are also included for (1) bifunctional initiator compositions (Z) obtained by reacting a metal-organic initiator M with a coupling agent (Y) to form a bifunctional initiator M2Y, reacting M2Y with a small amount of linear diene monomer to form an activated initiator (M*)2Y and repeating this step one or more times to form (Z) (2) a method (M1) as described above for the production of (Z) (3) a method (M2) for the production of (I) by anionic polymerisation, in which block (B) is polymerised first in presence of an initiator, then a complex-former is added and block(s) (A) and/or other block(s) (C) are polymerised (4) moulded products, film, fibres and foam made from (I).

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the living free-radical polymerization of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers by means of at least one free-radical polymerization initiator and in the presence of one or more stable N-oxyl radicals, at least one of which has polymerizable double bonds. The invention also relates to polymers which are obtained according to this method and have a polydispersity index (PDI) of between 1.0 and 1.8, and to the use of stable N-oxyl radicals with polymerizable double bonds in the living free-radical polymerization of one or more different ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
