PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for incorporating additive(s) during conditioning an animal feed, so designed that the additive(s) undergo stress to a minimum because the additive(s) is(are) exposed to a high temperature for only a limited time. SOLUTION: This system works as follows: a feed is conveyed from a feed container 1 via a mixing screw 12 through an inlet M along a path A to an outlet N; during the above process, the feed is exposed to steam; at least one additive introduced into a conditioner 3 is added to a portion of the feed passed through x% of the path A inside the conditioner 3, and the feed and the additive(s) added thereto are mixed together in the remaining (100-x)% of the path A; the resulting mixture discharged from the conditioner 3 through the outlet N is conveyed to a pelletizing press 7 where the mixture is formed into pellets, which are finally conveyed to a cooling unit 9.

The invention relates to a method for producing granulates which contain enzymes and which are suited for feeding animals. The granulates are produced by mixing at least one enzyme with a supporting material and by extruding this mixture. The inventive method is characterized in that the supporting material is firstly plasticized in a screw mixer which is equipped with at least one horizontally arranged screw. Afterwards, the enzyme is introduced into the screw mixer and is processed with the plasticized supporting material to produce a homogeneous material which is then extruded.

A computer operated assembly introduces additives to animal feed during the conditioning stage. Feedstuffs are discharged from a container (1) via a helical dose unit into a heated conditioner. The feed passes through the conditioner and is steam treated. Additives are introduced at given points along the helical conveyer. The additives and food are continually mixed until discharge to a pellet press and subsequent cooling. The conditioner has one or more parallel helical mixers operated simultaneously, and with inlets at given points for animal feedstuffs and additives. An Independent claim is included for the operating process.
