    Abstract: Blue iron hexacyanoferrate-III pigments are produced by a process wherein complex iron-II hexacyanoferrate-II (Berlin white) is prepared by electrolysis of an aqueous catholyte solution containing (a) an iron-II salt, (b) an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or a mixture of these, and (c) hydrogen cyanide, in an electrolysis cell in which the anode chamber and cathode chamber are separated by an ion exchange membrane, using an electrically conductive aqueous liquid in the anode chamber, and the iron-II hexacyanoferrate-II obtained is then converted to the blue pigment. The process gives Berlin white, which is substantially free from salt, in high yield and high purity. Pollution caused by the process is very low, since only a small amount of salt is produced. Compared with the corresponding blue pigments produced by prior art processes, the pigments obtained give purer colorations with better gloss, and are of higher color strength.

    Abstract: Aq. wax emulsions with gradually adjustable viscosity (I) contain (A) water-dispersible polyethylene (PE) wax(es), (B) nonionic emulsifier(s), (C) basic metal cpd(s). and (D) 0.01-2 wt.% (D1) poly(meth)acrylic acid salt(s) with mol. wt. 1000-250,000 and/or (D2) salt(s) of a copolymer of (meth)acrylic acid (II) contg. above 90 wt.% (II), with mol. wt. 3000-250,000. Also claimed is a process for adjusting the viscosity of aq. wax emulsions contg. (A), (B) and (C), by adding 0.01-2 wt.% (D). Pref. (I) has flow time 10-70 secs. (4-mm Ford cup). (I) contains ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer and/or oxidised PE as wax (A), 0.1-1 wt.% Na polyacrylate (D1) with mol. wt. 10,000-150,000 and pref. also (E) 0.001-2 wt.% multidentate organic complexing agent(s). USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for the prodn. of polish etc. for floors, tiles, shoes and cars, ink, paint, packaging, lubricating grease, vaseline, drawing cpds., casting and insulating materials for electrical applications, aq. wood varnish and hot-melt coating materials, in plastics processing, paper prodn. and corrosion proofing, for textile and leather finishing, and as release agents in non-ferrous die casting and spin casting. Addn. of (D) enables the viscosity of (I) to be adjusted gradually in prodn.; emulsions contg. (E) also have improved shelf life

Compounds of formula in which R 1 is chlorine, bromine or iodine and R 2 is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or carbocyclic aromatic radical are prepared by reaction of an ester of a 2,3-dihalo-acrylic acid with an alkali metal thiocyanate. The products have fungicidal activity.
