Abstract: Aqueous solutions of hydroxylamine are prepared from aqueous hydroxylammonium salt solutions by electrodialysis by a method in which the aqueous hydroxylammonium salt solution is fed into the middle zone of an electrolysis cell, which is divided into a cathode zone, an anode zone and a middle zone by means of semipermeable membranes, and is electrolyzed, and the catholyte used is an alkali metal hydroxide solution containing ammonia and/or amines.

Abstract: Blue iron hexacyanoferrate-III pigments are produced by a process wherein complex iron-II hexacyanoferrate-II (Berlin white) is prepared by electrolysis of an aqueous catholyte solution containing (a) an iron-II salt, (b) an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or a mixture of these, and (c) hydrogen cyanide, in an electrolysis cell in which the anode chamber and cathode chamber are separated by an ion exchange membrane, using an electrically conductive aqueous liquid in the anode chamber, and the iron-II hexacyanoferrate-II obtained is then converted to the blue pigment. The process gives Berlin white, which is substantially free from salt, in high yield and high purity. Pollution caused by the process is very low, since only a small amount of salt is produced. Compared with the corresponding blue pigments produced by prior art processes, the pigments obtained give purer colorations with better gloss, and are of higher color strength.

Abstract: Aq. AlCl3 solns, esp. those remaining after Friedel-Craft synthesis, are economically converted back to AlCl3 for re-use, by spraying onto a fluidised bed of aluminium oxychloride at 70-150 (95-115) degrees C. The product is then heated at 400-800 (400-600) degrees C to yield Al2O3 contg. residual Cl. The grain size, being coarse, is esp. suited for chlorination, with CoCl2. Pref. the solns. to be treated contain >=20 wt.% AlCl3, but the process is effective for any AlCl3 content.

Abstract: Metal phthalocyanines are prepared by electrochemical reaction of aromatic o-dinitriles with metal salts in virtually anhydrous solvents in the presence of alkali metal alkoxides or alkali metal amides with the introduction of hydrogen. Metal phthalocyanines are obtained in yields of > 90% with purities > 95%. The process products are soft granular pigments which yield brilliant and intense dyeings.

Abstract: A process for the purification of frozen-out crystal layers in which these crystal layers, after they have been frozen out of a melt or solution on a cooling surface, are brought into contact with a purification liquid and are thus purified over their entire thickness, are then separated from the purification liquid and are subsequently melted, characterised in that the temperature of the crystal layers and of the purification liquid is in the region of the melting point or solubility point, in that the material transfer at the phase interface is intensified by forced convection, and in that this purification is carried out in a time of from 1 minute to 60 minutes on layers having a thickness from 0.2 mm to 10 mm.
