    Abstract: Gas-press. regulating device, used partic. in mfr. of polystyrene mouldings in double-walled moulds includes a pneumatic feed increaser (sic) with 2-membranes which are arranged inside the feed increaser and controlled via a duct and a spring loaded double cone. The membranes are connected by an element provided with holes. An axially mobile plunger acts upon the element and carries, at its end nearest the mould, >=1 devices associated with the perforated inner wall of or outer wall of the mould. A line connects the mould with the feed increaser. Continuous monitoring of the foaming press. is possible during the cooling of the moulding until it is ejected from the mould. Direct heat transfer from the hot mould wall to the plastics foam is minimised. This reduces risk of surface flaws and gives prods. with uniform apparent density.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing cuboidal foam blocks by foaming and sintering of prefoamed, spherical expanded polystyrene particles in perforated metal moulds with the aid of dry saturated steam. In a first stage steam is blown into the mould successively onto two or four lateral surfaces in order to displace the air from the mould. In a second stage a steam pressure, which is adequate to produce the sintering of the particles, is subsequently built up in the mould.

    Abstract: The apparatus essentially consists of a filling station which has a storage container, on the bottom of which are arranged filling nozzles, the number and arrangement of which correspond to the cavities in the hollow blocks to be filled, and also of a sintering station. The sintering station contains a steam chamber formed from two diametrically opposite chamber sections and having steam supply lines together with shut-off members connected to said steam chamber. At least one of the chamber sections is vertically adjustable. To avoid stresses of thermal origin in the hollow blocks, the hollow blocks are foam-filled in a closed housing consisting of the chamber sections and lateral wall elements.
