Abstract: Production of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate or a 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate-containing mixture comprises heating isobutyraldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to 60-130 deg C, followed by heating the mixture to 140-250 deg C and optionally isolating the 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate from the mixture.
