SOLUTION: Partition walls DW are arranged substantially along the longitudinal direction of the distillation column so that the inside of the distillation column is divided into an upper zone 2 and a lower zone 4 of the feed section, an upper zone 3 and a lower zone 5 of the side stream take-off section, an upper common column section 1 and a lower common column section 6. A feeding mixture to be separated between the zones 2 and 4 of the feed section is in a wholly or partially vaporized state and/or the side stream to be taken off from the zones 3 and 5 of the side stream take-off section is in a wholly or partially vaporized state.

Abstract: Distillation column has a dividing wall which divides it into inflow and extraction sections, and upper and lower column zones. The mixture for distillation comprises a vapor feed which enters between the upper and lower inflow sections, between which the side extraction point removes vapor. The inflow and the extraction zones are offset relative too the dividing wall. The vapor feed rate is equal in all zones of the column. The distillation column has a dividing wall (TW) which divides it into an inflow section (2,4), an extraction section (3,5), and common upper (1) and lower (6) column zones. The mixture for distillation is at least partially a vapor feed (F) which enters between the upper and lower inflow sections, and the side extraction point (B) removes vapor between the upper and lower extraction zones. The cross sectional surfaces of the inflow and the extraction zones are set by an offset in the dividing wall. The F-factor is equal in all the zones of the column, defined as the product of the gas flow speed in m/seconds multiplied with the square root of the gas density in kg/m3.

Abstract: Production of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate comprises reaction of isobutyraldehyde in the presence of an aqueous alkalimetal hydroxide, separation of the aqueous phase and reaction of at least a portion of the mixture with isobutyric acid under conditions of esterification to form 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate. Production of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate comprises: (A) reaction of isobutyraldehyde in the presence of an aqueous alkalimetal hydroxide as a basic catalyst, to give an organic phase comprising a mixture of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol, and an aqueous phase comprising the alkalimetal hydroxide and alkalimetal isobutyrate; (B) separation of the aqueous phase; (C) optional removal of a portion of the resulting mixture from the process and/or separation of the mixture into its components followed by optional removal of the separated 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate; (D) reaction of at least a portion of the mixture from step (B) with isobutyric acid under conditions of esterification to form 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate; and (E) optional recovery of the product.

Abstract: Preparation of protected aldehydes and ketones of formulae (I) and (II) comprises addition of alcohols of formula (III) to acetylenes or allenes of formulae (IV) and (V) in the gas phase at elevated temperatures in the presence of a heterogeneous, X-ray amorphic zinc or cadmium silicates. The content of zinc or cadmium, calculated as the oxide, is 1-40 wt.%. The catalyst is prepared by bringing a zinc or cadmium salt and an organic acid (which decomposes at below 400 degrees C) into contact with amorphic silica. Formation of the catalyst takes place at 50-500 degrees C in the presence of an OH-containing compound selected from water, 1-10C alkanols, 2-6C diols or triols or 1-6C carboxylic acids. R1OH (III) (R)2C=C=C(R)2 (V) R1 = H or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group or acyl (all optionally containing inert substituents); R = H or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic groups (which optionally join together to form rings); and m = 0 or 1.

Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous process for producing pseudoionones of general formulas (I) and (I') as well as isomers thereof, whereby: R 1 represents CH 3 or (a); R 2 and R 3 represent hydrogen, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , and; R 4 and R 5 represent hydrogen or CH 3 . These pseudoionones are produced by reacting an aldehyde of formula (II) with an excess of a ketone of general formula (III), whereby R 1 , R 2 and R 3 have the aforementioned meanings, in the presence of water and alkali hydroxide at an increased temperature and in a homogeneous solution. The inventive process is characterized in that: a) the intermixing of the homogeneous solution consisting of aldehyde, ketone and aqueous alkali lye occurs at a temperature ranging from 10 to 120° C.; b) the undissolved water and alkali hydroxide contained in the reaction mixture are subsequently separated out; c) while avoiding back mixing, the homogeneous reaction mixture is then guided through a reactor, which permits a residence time ranging from 2 to 300 minutes, at a temperature that is 10 to 120° C. higher than the boiling point of the lowest-boiling component and under a vapor pressure p ranging from 10 6 to 10 7 Pa; d) the reaction mixture is cooled by expansion; e) ketone is removed from the reaction mixture using vapor flowing in the opposite direction and; f) the raw product is dried and rid from excessive aldehyde and secondary components via a rectification column.
