    Abstract: The invention comprises O-alkylnitrosimmonium salts of the formula wherein R1 represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical, R2 represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical, or R1 and R2 jointly complete a five- or six-membered ring, R3 represents an alkyl radical and y\sK denotes the radical of a strong mineral-acid. The above compounds, are prepared by reacting introsamines of the formula with strong alkylating agents which function to introduce the R3 radical and the y\sK anion components into the O-alkylnitrosimmonium formula. Suitable strong alkylating agents are alkyl iodides in presence of silver fluoborate or silver perchlorate and trialkyloxonium fluoborates and perchlorates. The R1 and R2 radicals may contain chlorine substituents.ALSO:O-Alkylnitrosimmonium salts of the formula: wherein R1 represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical, R2 represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical, or R1 and R2 jointly complete a five- or six-membered ring, R3 represents an alkyl radical and y\sKY denotes the radical of a strong mineral acid, are used to expand plastics such as epoxy resins in the presence of bases such as piperidine, triethylamine, cyclohexylamine, n-butylamine and aqueous alkali hydroxides.

    Abstract: Arylazo carbonyl compounds of the formula R1-N=N-CO-R2 wherein R1 represents an aromatic group free from active hydrogen atoms and R2 represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic group, are obtained by reacting an O-alkylnitrosimmonium salt having the formula wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group, R11 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group R11 represents an alkyl group and X - represents the equivalent of a strong acid anion; with a carboxylic acid salt of the formula wherein Me(+) represents the equivalent of a metal cation, and isolating the products, which include, as well as the required product, alcohols R111-OH and ketones or aldehydes R1-CO-R11. Preferred carboxylic acid salts (III) are those which are soluble in water, in strongly polar solvents or in mixtures of water-soluble organic solvents and water. Among the specified products are compounds of the formula wherein Cbzo represents a carbobenzoxy group, which are obtained by using a glycine salt wherein the NH2 group is protected by a Cbzo group. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds.

    Abstract: The invention comprises omega-aminoketocarboxylic acids of the general Formula (I) wherein m is an integer of 5 to 15 and n is an integer of 5 to 12 with the proviso that m + n is between 14 and 22, and a process for the preparation of acids of said general formula without said proviso, and salts thereof, by subjecting compounds of the general Formula (II) wherein m is 5 to 15 and n is 5 to 12, to acid or alkaline hydrolysis. The reaction is preferably performed at a temperature of 80 DEG to 110 DEG C. and at a pH other than pH 1 to 13 using, for example, aqueous solutions of, for example, sodium, potassium or calcium hydroxide, potassium carbonate, hydrogen chloride or bromide, sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid, or a solution of sodium hydroxide in ethylene glycol monomethylether. The reaction mixture may be worked up by extraction with an organic solvent, acidification of the aqueous phase if it is alkaline, and evaporation to dryness of the aqueous phase; the residue, if desired, being extracted with a hot polar organic solvent, the extract evaporated to dryness, and the residue crystallized from hot acid, alkali or water. The compounds of Formula (II) may be prepared by the process described in Specification 1,049,769.
