Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new protein capable of carrying out the riboflavin biosynthesis by using a gene of an enzyme for the biosysnthesis of purine from Ashbya gossipii having a specific polypeptide sequence and the enzyme activity of a phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthase. SOLUTION: This new protein has a polypeptide sequence represented by the formula or a polypeptide sequence obtained by substituting, inserting or deleting up to 15% amino acids from the formula and the enzyme activity of a phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthase and is capable of carrying out the biosynthesis of riboflavin (vitamin B2 ) by expressing a gene from an enzyme for biosynthesis of purine from Ashbya gossipii in a microorganism. The protein is obtained by extracting a genomic DNA from Ashbya gossipii ATCC10895, then producing a genomic genetic bank according to a conventional method, cloning the resultant bank, providing a gene of an enzyme for the biosynthesis of the purine and expressing the resultant gene in the microorganism according to a gene technical constitution of the microorganism. The prepared protein is used to perform the biosynthesis of the riboflavin in the microorganism.
