    Abstract: Flame-resistant acrylonitrile polymer textiles contains 4-25% phosphorus/nitrogen cpd of formula PN (OR) (OR') n PN Cl (OR") m (where n and m are O-10 and (n + m) is 3-10, and R,R' and R" are low-molecular monovalent organic residues. Phosphorus/nitrogen cpds are partly oily, partly crystalline substances, easily dispersible in aq. media; they need not be isolated after preparation but can be used in solution as produced. Cpds. are best applied to solutions of acrylonitrile polymers in aq. salt systems, such as zinc chloride solutions. Cpds are produced in known manner by reacting phosphorous dichloronitrides with hydroxyl cpds. in presence of bases.

    Abstract: Reaction temp. is kept constant by control of condensation conditions on the condenser, as is the concentration ratio of monomer(s) and DMF in the reaction mixture by control of additions of DMF as a function of the saturation vapour pressure above the reaction mixture, and also the polymer content of the reaction mixture by control of dwell time. Pref. a 35-to 45% monomer soln. is introduced in the reaction zone and polymn. is effected as 55 to 65 degrees C.
