Finally, the invention relates to a method for producing the impregnated salts and the preservatives, and to the use of said salts and preservatives for treating foodstuffs and animal food, and for silage or for treating leather.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process for ensiling fodder in which a first compound and a second compound are added, the first compound reacting to form carbon dioxide with the second compound in the presence of moisture which preferably originates from the ensiled material. Preferably, solid hydrogen carbonates or decarboxylating compounds are used as the first compound whilst solid acids are used as the second compounds. An agent for use in such a process can also contain conventional ensiling agents such as salts of formic, propionic or sorbic acid.
