Abstract: Use, as an auxiliary in cosmetic or pharmaceutical compsns., of water-soluble or -dispersible polyurethanes (A), or salts, prepd. from at least one each of cpd. (I) with 2 or more active H atoms per molecule; a diol (II) contg. acid or salt gps. and a diisocyanate (III), and having glass transition temp. at least 15 deg. C and acid no. 12-150, is new. (A) is new when they contain as (I) at least 5 mole% polycondensate of lactic acid with a polyol of formula Y(O(CO-CHMe-O)nH)m. Y Is residue of 2-4 valent alcohol; n is 1-50; m is 1-4.
