Abstract: Aqueous textile softeners containing as active ingredient a condensate of 1 mole of a bis- or tris-hydroxyalkylamine of the formula where R1 is H, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyethyl or 2-hydroxypropyl and R2 is H or CH3, with from 0.8 to 2 moles of a fatty acid of 16 to 18 carbon atoms, the said condensate being in the form of a salt with an inorganic or organic acid or being partially or completely quaternized at the amine nitrogen, cannot readily be formed into liquids containing 10% or more of active ingredient. According to the invention liquids containing from 15 to 40% by weight of such an active ingredient can be formed by adding from 3 to 15% by weight based on the active ingredient of a compound of the formula II where n is an integer from 1 to 4, R3 and R4 independently of one another are methyl, ethyl or propyl, R5 is hydrogen or methyl and R6 is alkyl of 7 to 13 carbon atoms including a chain of at least 7 carbon atoms, as a salt of an inorganic or organic watersoluble acid, and bringing the pH of the formulation to 2.5 to 6. The softeners of the invention are used after dilution for softening textiles.

Abstract: New ammonium salts (I) of N-alkyl-N' aminoalkylureas have formula R-NH-CO-NH-(CH2)x- circled positiveNMe2R' Circled negative in which R is 16-20C alkyl; R' is CnH2n+1 (pref. n = 1-4), Ph or PHCH2; Circled negative is Clcircled negative, 1/2SO4-2, 1/2CO32-, C104- or MeSO3-; x = 2-5). (I) can be prepd. by reacting half-quaternised alkylenediamine derivs., e.g. H2N.CH2CH2NMe3Cl, and an alkyl isocyanate, e.g. stearyl isocyanate, or by reacting a diamine with one prim. and one tert. amino gp., e.g. Me2--N(CH2)3NH2 or Et2N(CH2)3.CH(NH2)Me, with an alkyl isocyanate, followed by quaternisation with an alkylating agent, e.g. Me2SO4 or MeCl. (I) are used in aq. soln. for treating textiles, giving an antistatic finish for polyacrylonitrile and a soft finish for regenerated celluose, cotton, polyester and nylon.

Abstract: 1455505 Antistatic treatment of shaped articles BASF AG 28 Feb 1974 [1 March 1973] 9057/74 Heading D1P Shaped articles are of organic polymeric material, e.g. textiles, rendered antistatic by treatment with a compound of general formula where R and Q independently are hydroxyalkyl (2-3C), alkyl (1-4C) or benzyl and Q can also be the radical in which A is alkylene (216C), and X (-) is an organic or inorganic anion, or the n-th part of an n-valent, such anion (n being an integer greater than 1) preferably chloride or methosulphate. Preferably Q is methyl or ethyl. The surface treated may be a textile of natural or synthetic high molecular weight material. The compound may be applied by dipping, or spraying. An example relates to treating a polyamide fabric with a 0.05% strength solution of N - methyl - tri - (2 - hydroxyethyl) - ammonium chloride at a liquor ratio of 30:1 after which the fabric is dried and thermoset at 180‹-200‹C.
