    Abstract: Fine spherical solid particles (F1) with a dia. of 5-100 nm consists of: (A) 60-70 (wt.)% core of spherical, rhombohedral alpha-Fe2O3 with a deg. of purity of over 98% and (B) 30-40% sheath of a basic metal hydroxide-sulphate, with an alkali ion content of under 500 ppm, having general formula MvMnwZnx(OH)y(SO4)z (I) (where M = Mg, Co, Ni, Cd, Fe-II and/or Cu-II; v = 0-0.9; w = 0.1-0.9; x = 0.1-0.9; y = 1.01-1.99; z = 0.005-0.505; v + w + x = 1; 0.5 y + z = 1.) Fine, magnetic, cubic or hexagonal ferrite particles (F1' or F2') are produced by: (a) pptg. metal hydroxides from their aq. salt solns. with an aq. base on the surface of fine Fe oxide or Fe oxide-hydroxide particles in aq. dispersion, to form fine 2-layer solid particles F1 or F2 of a core (A) and sheath (B); and (b) sepg., washing, drying and sintering (green burning) F1 or F2. The aq. F1 or F2 dispersion is treated with 5-20 vol.% 1-6C alcohol, before sepn., then the particles are sped. and washed several times with a mixt. of 0.05-0.3 vol. pts. 1-6C alcohol and 1 vol. pt. water.
