Abstract: Flameproof thermoplastic mouldings, according to DT 27 34 926, are based on styrene polymers and contain 0.05-5 wt.% of an organic Br cpd. (I), as flame retardant, which has heterocyclic ring(s) contg. N heteroatom(s) in the mol., has = -CBr3 gp(s). in the mol., -N=C- being a constituent of the heterocycle, is so thermostable at 150 degrees C that the wt. loss is under 1% after 1 h and is not a 1,3,5-thiadiazole deriv. The novelty is that (I) is 2-tribromomethylbenzothiazole (IA) or 2-tribromomethyl benzoxazole (IB). (IA) and (IB) are suitable, in addn. to the 2,4,6-tris-(tribromomethyl)-1,3,5-triazine pref. in the parent specification.
