Abstract: Aqueous synthetic resin formulations essentially contain A) from 3 to 75% by weight of one or more synthetic resins which are composed of a) from 50 to 99.9% by weight of one or more unsaturated carboxylic or vinyl esters, b) from 0.1 to 12% by weight of one or more alpha , beta -monoethylenically unsaturated monobasic or dibasic acids or their ahydrides, c) from 0 to 10% by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated acetophenone or benzophenone derivatives, d) from 0 to 35% by weight of one or more other copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, in polymerized form, B) one or more metal cations having a charge of from 2 to 4, in water-soluble form, C) from 0 to 10% by weight, based on the synthetic resin A, or benezophenones or acetophenones which are not monoethylenically unsaturated, D) effective amounts of emulsifiers or protective colloids or a mixture of these active ingredients, E) not less than 5% by weight of water and F) from 0 to 85% by weight of finely divided fillers, and the total amount of the cations B is such that it is capable of neutralizing from 0.2 to 6 times the amount, corresponding to the amount of acid functions incorporated in the form of the monomers b in the synthetic resin A, of their conjugated bases. These synthetic resin formulations are suitable for coating, adhesive bonding, sealing or impregnating.

Abstract: Binders for aqueous primers for wood paints contain (A) from 50 to 95% by weight, based on the weight of the primer, of an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl polymer having a particle size of from 0.03 to 0.5 mu m and a minimum film-forming temperature of from 0 DEG to 50 DEG C., the said dispersion being stable to polyvalent ions, and (B) from 5 to 50% by weight, based on the weight of the primer, of a water-soluble polymeric zinc amine complex of a copolymer which has a K value of from 8 to 40 and consists of (a) from 20 to 60% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of an alpha , beta -monoethylenically unsaturated mono- and/or dicarboxylic acid of 3 to 5 carbon atoms and (b) from 40 to 80% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of styrene and/or one or more alkyl (meth)acrylates, where alkyl is of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, the copolymer being reacted with from 2 to 6 moles, based on the carboxyl groups of the copolymer, of ammonia and from 0.8 to 1.2 equivalents of a zinc compound per carboxyl group of the copolymer.

A binder for building adhesives, troweling mixes and plasters which is based on a halogen-free emulsion copolymer of monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylates, wherein the emulsion copolymer comprises (a) from 55 to 72 % by weight of vinyl propionate, (b) from 44,9 to 27,5 % by weight of tert.-butyl acrylate, (c) from 0.1 to 0.5 % by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and (d) from 0 to 17.5 % by weight of a monoolefinically unsaturated carboxylate from the group comprising vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate and methacrylate, n- and isobutyl acrylate and methacrylate and dibutyl maleate, the percentages being based on the total amount of the monomers.
