    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for the continuous preparation of polycaprolactam which comprises: passing .epsilon.-caprolactam in the presence of water as an initiator downwardly through a vertical tubular reactor, wherein the .epsilon.-caprolactam is partially polymerized at a temperature of from 245 to 260.degree.C in a mixing zone equipped with a mechanical stirrer, which zone has a diameter which is 30 to 80% greater than that of the balance of the tube, circulating the polymerizing caprolactam melt through a heat exchange zone located at a distance from the stirrer which is 0.3 to 1.5 times the diameter of the narrower part of the tube, in the lower part of the mechanically mixed reaction zone, passing the melt through additional heat exchange zones at a temperature of from 240 to 290.degree.C, wherein the desired degree of polymerization is reached, and thereafter discharging poly-.epsilon.-caprolactam as a melt from the tubular reactor.

    Abstract: A process for the continuous preparation of polycaprolactam, which comprises polymerizing epsilon -caprolactam in a vertical tubular reactor through which the epsilon -caprolactam flows downward, wherein the epsilon -caprolactam is partially polymerized, at a nylon-forming temperature, in a mechanically mixed zone, the reaction mixture is circulated through a heat exchange zone in the lower part of the mechanically mixed reaction zone, and is polymerized further, in additional heat exchange zones, until the desired degree of polymerization is reached, and poly- epsilon -caprolactam is then discharged as a melt, and an apparatus for carrying out the process.

    Abstract: Filaments with a relative viscosity RV of 2.0 to 3.0 (measured at a concentration of 1 g of fibres per 100 ml in a 96 wt % sulphuric acid, based on polycaprolactam, obtainable by:(a) extruding a melt consisting essentially of caprolactam through a spinning nozzle to form caprolactam filaments;(b) cooling the filaments thus produced and (c) drawing the cooled filaments off at a rate of at least ¢3600 + 1250.(3.0-RV)!m/min, the polycaprolactam used being produced in the presence of at least one bicarboxylic acid from the group: C4-C10-alkane bicarboxylic acids, C5-C8-cycloalkane bicarboxylic acids, benzole and naphthaline bicarboxylic acids which may have up to two sulphonic acid groups and whose carboxylic acid groups are not adjacent, N-C1-C6-alkyl-N,N-di(C4-C10-alkane carboxylic acid)amine, 1,4-piperazine-di(C1-C10-alkane carboxylic acid), and a process for producing these filaments, their use for the production of fibers and flat products, and fibers and flat products made of these filaments.
