Abstract: The invention relates to a reactor having heated reactor tubes filled with a catalyst, for carrying out endothermal catalytic reactions, in particular for dehydrogenating or steam-reforming hydrocarbons. According to the invention, the diameter of the reactor tubes increases in the direction of flow. The increase can be continuous and linear, for example using a conical reaction tube, step-wise, for example using a reaction tube comprising cylindrical and conical tube sections, or nonlinear.
