    Abstract: Copolymers of 4-methylpentene-1 are prepared by copolymerization of 4-methylpentene-1 with one or more other C2-18 alpha -alkenes at a temperature above room temperature and in the presence of hydrogen using a Ziegler/Natta catalyst system. The polymerization is carried out at a relatively very high temperature and in the presence of an inert gas with the proviso that the partial pressures of the inert gas and of the hydrogen and the sum of the partial pressures of the inert gas, hydrogen and 4-methylpentene-1 have specific values. In this way, copolymers having large crystalline fractions are obtained in a high yield per unit of catalyst system per unit time.

    Abstract: Prodn. of polypropylene by polymsn. of propylene at 50 - 100 degrees C under a press. of 20 - 60 atm. in an agitated dry bed of small polypropylene particles in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system consisting of (1) 1 mole of TiCl3.1/3 AlCl3 modified by 0.1 - 0.5 mole of phosphoric acid hexamethyltriamide, and (2) 2 - 10 moles of Al trialkyl contg. =3C in each alkyl and introduced into the polymsn. zone in the form of a suspension or soln. in a hydrocarbon medium used in an amt. of 500 - 1000 g. hydrocarbon per mole of Al trialkyl, is improved by using as a hydrocarbon medium 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene opt. mixed with an =4-fold amt. of petrol boiling at 80 - 110 degrees C.

A method for the production of a flat structural sandwich comprises continuously preparing sheeting 4 by means of a screw extruder 2 at a material temperature of from 120‹ to 220‹ C. from a polyethylene having a density of from 0.918 to 0.930 g./cm. 3 and melt index (ASTM D 1238-65 T) of from 0.2 to 5, continuously covering the sheeting on each surface by a pair of rollers 7 with a film 6 having a thickness of 0À01 to 0.2 mm. of a terpolymer containing 60 to 90% by weight of ethylene units, 0.5 to 20% by weight of units of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid e.g. acrylic acid and 0À5 to 20% by weight of units of an ester of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid e.g. t-butyl acrylate, the resultant laminate being continuously covered on each surface by a pair of rollers 9 with metal sheeting 8 e.g. aluminium, copper, brass or steel, having a thickness of from 0.05 to 2.5 mm. and at a temperature of from 100‹ to 250‹ C., the whole being bonded into a sandwich construction by the rollers 9 under a pressure of from 5 to 50 kp/cm., the product being cooled in cooling zone 10 to a temperature of less than 60‹ C. and cut into panels by cutting means 11.

    Abstract: A process for the production of sandwich constructions consisting of (a) an inner ply of polyethylene; (b) adhesion-promoting interlayers applied to both sides of the inner ply and (c) outer plies of metal applied to the two interlayers. It is a characteristic feature of the invention that sheeting is prepared continuously from a special polyethylene by means of a screw extruder at a specific temperature of the material, this sheeting is covered on both sides with a film of a special polymer by means of a pair of rollers, the resultant laminate is then covered continuously by means of a pair of rollers at a specific temperature of the material with metal sheeting having a specific temperature and the whole is combined to form a sandwich panel under a specific roller pressure. The process gives sandwich constructions having particularly good chemical and physical properties in a simple way.

    Abstract: 1515154 Graft polymerization process BASF AG 17 Oct 1975 [25 Oct 1974] 42549/75 Heading C3P A graft polymer is produced by contacting shaped elements of diameter 0À05 to 1 cm. of a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated carboxylate ester in a mixing zone at 10 to 30‹ C. with from 0À5 to 10% by weight, based on the copolymer, of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or anhydride containing a free-radical initiator dissolved therein, allowing the acid or anhydride containing initiator to diffuse through the copolymer and polymerizing the mixture at 50 to 100‹ C. in the absence of air. Examples are given in which granules of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or ethylene/nbutyl acrylate copolymer are grafted with acrylic acid.
