Abstract: Olefinically unsatd. cpds. with C chain of is not 30C are reacted in liquid phase at elevated temp. with O2 and O2-contng. gas in the presence of an aldehyde having is not 2C and catalysts, opt. under pressure. During the reaction the free carboxylic acid content is kept at 0.1-7% of the total reaction-mixture by means of neutralising agents. Suitable starting material are 3-8C aliph. olefins, 6-12C cycloaliphatic olefins or 8-10C araliphatic olefins, esp. styrene. Suitable aldehydes are 2-8C aliph. aldehydes having hydrocarbon structure apart from aldehyde gp. Reaction may be carried out at 20-200 degrees C under up to 100 atm.
