    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject complex suitable for the coordination polymerization of various monomers by reacting a mononuclear metal complex in the presence of hydrogen under a specific pressure and at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: A mononuclear metal complex expressed by formula I [M is Sc, Y, La, etc.; R is H, a halogen, a 1-20C alkyl or the like; Z is SiR'2(R' is a 1-20C alkyl or the like), O or the like; (m) is 1, 2; X is O, S or the like; L is a low molecular weight Lewis base; and (n) is 0 or l] is reacted in the presence of hydrogen, at 1.5-100 bar pressure and 0-100 deg.C temperature, preferably in an inactive solvent such as n-pentane or the likes to obtain a complex expressed by formula II, e.g. bis[tetramethylcyclopentadienyl(tert-butylamide) dimethylsilylyttrium hydride]. The side complex is useful as a catalyst for (co)polymerizing polar monomers.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new semi-sandwich complex of a mononuclear bis- alkylmetal capable of obtaining a uniform high purity product in an industrial scale by coordinating and polymerizing various monomers such as a polar olefinic unsaturated monomer, lactone, etc. SOLUTION: This semi-sandwich complex of a non-cross-linked mononuclear bis-alkylmetal having a polymerization activity based on a rare earth metal, is expressed by the formula (M is scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, or lanthanide; R is H, a halogen, a 6-15 aryl or the like; R' and R" are each a 1-20C alkyl, a 3-10C cycloalkyl, a 6-15C aryl or the like; L is a low molecular weight organic compound of a Lewis base; (m) is 0-4; (n) is 0, 1), e.g. [(trimethylsilyl) cyclopentadienyl]yttrium. Further, the compound of the formula is obtained by reacting M[CH2-n(SiR"3)1+n]3(L)2 with CpR4(H)(SiR'3) in an inert solvent.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound capable of being used as a catalyst for enantiomeric selective hydrogenation by a simple method. SOLUTION: A chiral compound of formula I [M is an element selected from titanium, zirconium, hafnium, etc.; X is F, Cl, Br, I, H, a 1-10C alkyl, etc.; R -R are each H, a (1-10C alkyl-substituted) five to seven-membered cycloalkyl, etc.; R is Ge, Sn, O, S, etc.; R , R are each a 1-10C alkyl, a 6-15C aryl, etc.; (n) is a number obtained by subtracting 2 from the atomic valency of the M], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a suitably substituted cyclopentadienyl with compounds of the formulas: R Z2 and MXn (Z is F, Cl, Br, I) and subsequently reacting the reaction product with a compound of formula III (R is H, an alkali metal, etc.). Thereby, the active catalyst component used for enantiomeric selective hydrogenation can be obtained by the simple method.
