Abstract: Beta-Keto propane sultones and sultams of formula (I), and their enol ether and enamine derivs., are new: (where R1 is H or 1-6C alkyl and R2 is H, 1-6C alkyl or 7-10C aralkyl, or CR1R2 forms a 5-7C cycloaliphatic gp.; R3 is H, 1-4C alkyl or 3-6C alkenyl (both opt. substd. by amino, phenyl or a heterocyclic gp.), alkoxycarbonyl, aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acyl, or phenyl and R4 is H, or R3+R4 forms opt. substd. alkylidene or benzylidene; X is O or NR; R is H, lower alkyl or phenyl). Cpds. (I) and their enol ethers and enamines inhibit immune reactions and can be used to treat autoimmune disorders and esp. for inhibiting transplant rejection. Specif. claimed is 5,5-dimethyl-4-methoxy-5H-1,2-oxathiole 2,2-dioxide (Ia).
