Abstract: Consolidation and flame-retardant finishing of needled felt carpets involves treatment with aq. dispersions of copolymers (I) with a min. film-forming temp. (MFT) of 5-25 deg. C, mixed with suspended finely-divided Sb oxide (II), and drying at elevated temp. (I) consist of 15-35 (wt.)% vinylidene chloride (VDC), 10-45% vinyl chloride (VC), 8-72% 1-12C-alkyl (meth)acrylates and/or vinyl 22-3 C-aliphatic carboxylates, 1-7% alpha, monoolefinically unsatd. 3-5C mono- and/or dicarboxylic acids and/or their amides, 2-5% N-methylol-(meth)acrylamide and/or its 1-4C alkyl ether and 0-3% vinylsulphonic acid.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for producing thermoformable (deep drawable), bonded needle-felts for interior fittings of automobiles having, in the thermoformed (deep drawn) state, a reduced tendency to shrink in the heat, wherein the needled felt is treated with a copolymer dispersion prepared by two-step emulsion copolymerisation of olefinically unsaturated monomers, the latex particles consisting of two phases whose glass transition temperatures differ by at least 40 DEG C, and the treated felt is dried at elevated temperature.
