    Abstract: 1394835 Polyamide filaments BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 Sept 1972 [20 Sept 1971] 43258/72 Heading B5B Filaments of synthetic linear polyamides containing 2-15% by weight of an alkoxylated polyamide, preferably 4 to 10%, are made by subjecting a molten mixture thereof to thorough mixing so that the alkoxylated polyamide is present in the finished filaments in the form of particles having a diameter of not more than 0À1 Á, and filtering the molten mixture at least once through a filter having a pore width of not more than 20 Á, after which the mixture, optionally after being converted to chip form, is melt spun, the molten mixture being maintained in the molten state for a total period of not more than 30 minutes, and without the melt temperature exceeding 290‹ C. Mixing and filtration may be effected in the spinning apparatus by using a spinning extruder capable of providing thorough mixing and placing a filter immediately downstream of the spinning nozzle. The spun filament may be drawn at ratios of 1 : 2À5 to 1 : 45. Filaments so made have a greatly reduced tendency to build up electrostatic charges.

Polymer dispersions are produced by copolymerizing styrene with 5-95% of esters of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid with C 1-8 alcohols in an aqueous medium in the presence of catalysts and emulsifiers, 0À01-2% of a protective colloid being gradually added after 20-80/) of the monomers have been copolymerized, and then completing the copolymerization. The esters may be ethyl, n- or tert-butyl, 2-ethylhexyl or cyclohexyl acrylate and/or methyl or butyl methacrylate. The copolymer may also include acrylic acid, acrylamide, methacrylamide, methyl vinyl carbinol, or vinyl sulphonic acid. Polyvinyl methyl ether may be present during the polymerization. The protective colloid may be a polyvinyl alcohol, which may be acetalized with n-butyraldehyde and completely hydrolysed, a hydroxyethyl cellulose, an ammoniacal solution of polyacrylic acid or a copolymer of acrylic acid/acrylamide/ acrylonitrile/methyl acrylate. The emulsifier may be the sodium salt of the sulphonated nonyl-phenol/ethylene oxide, ethylene oxide/noctylphenol, sodium vinyl sulphonate or propylene oxide/ethylene oxide. The catalyst may be potassium persulphate.

A thermoplastic addition polymer contains as antistatic additive a compound wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are hydrocarbon radicals and X is -O- or > NH. Specified polymers are polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene and styrene polymers (optionally containing elastomer). In examples, the additives used are N-lauroyl-N 1 -dimethyltrimethylene diamine, (Beta-diethylaminoethyl) stearate, N - lauroyl - N 1 - diethyl - alphamethyltetramethylene diamine, the reaction product of montanic acid and N,N-dimethylaminopropylamine, N - oleoyl - N 1 - dimethyltrimethylene diamine, dibutylamino - isopropyl oenanthate and N-lauroyl-N 1 -dimethylamino-trimethylene diamine.
