Abstract: A method for the selective hydrogenation of butadiene to butenes in the liquid or trickle phase on firmly arranged noble metal supported catalysts, in which a C4 stream rich in butadiene having a butadiene content of 20 to 80 % by weight, relative to the C4 stream, is hydrogenated in two reaction zones connected in series such that the hydrogenation product of the first reaction zone contains 0.1 to 20 % by weight and the hydrogenation product of the second reaction zone contains 0.005 to 1 % by weight of residual butadiene relative to the C4 stream, with the proviso that the butadiene content of the hydrogenation product from the second reaction zone is reduced by at least the factor 5 compared to the butadiene content of the hydrogenation product from the first reaction zone.

Also claimed are: (i) a lubricating composition containing 1-15 wt.% of the above copolymer in a usual liquid or pasty lubricant, and (ii) a fuel compostion containing 20-500 mg/kg of the above copolymer in a usual fuel.

Also claimed are (a) the production of the adducts; (b) a fuel composition containing the adducts in 20-5000 mg/kg fuel; and (c) an additive mixture for fuels and lubricants containing the adducts, optionally in combination with usual additive components.
