Abstract: The novel feature in prodn. of acetylene and synthesis gas by partial oxidn. of hydrocarbons with O2 where the starting gases are separately pre-heated, intensively mixed, reacted during passage through a burner block and finally rapidly cooled is that the through channels (6) in the burner block have their inlets covered by perforated (13) discs (14). The appts., comprising a mixing chamber, the block and a quencher, is also claimed as novel.
