Abstract: 869,434. Coated bituminized felt paper. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. Aug. 20, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958], No. 28456/59. Class 140. A floor covering comprises a bituminized felt paper coated with a sealing composition containing an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer obtained by polymerizing a mixture of monomers of which each 100 parts by weight contains 20 to 90 parts by weight of vinylidene chloride, a maximum of 80 parts by weight of an acrylic acid ester and/or carboxylic acid vinyl ester, and a maximum of 40 parts by weight of vinyl chloride. The copolymer may be obtained by polymerizing 60 to 90 parts by weight vinylidene chloride and 10 to 40 parts by weight acrylic acid ester, carboxylic acid vinyl ester and/or vinyl chloride. Again, the copolymer may be obtained by polymerizing 60 parts by weight of vinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride i.e. a mixture containing at least 20 parts vinylidene chloride and up to 40 parts vinyl chloride, and 40 parts by weight of acrylic acid ester and/or carboxylic acid vinyl ester. Acrylic acid esters of aliphatic alcohols having 1 to 8 carbon atoms are especially suitable. Suitable carboxylic acid vinyl esters are vinyl acetate and vinyl propionate.

Abstract: Coated films and moulded articles of polyolefines are produced by subcoating the articles, whose surfaces have been pretreated with oxidising flames, oxidizing agents, by irradiation or by exposure to corona discharges, with polymers of ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compounds, drying the subcoating, applying as top coating an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of 80 to 97% by weight of vinylidene chloride and 3 to 20% by weight of another copolymerizable mono-olefine monomer and drying said top coating, wherein as subcoating there is applied an emulsion copolymer of 90 to 98% by weight of at least one polymerizable monoolefinic unsaturated compound and 2 to 10% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable N-alkylolamide compound. The N-alkylol-amide compound may be a N-methylolamide of a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acid having three to five carbon atoms. The subcoating may be an emulsion copolymer of 90 to 98% by weight of at least one mono olefinic monomer selected from copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acids having three to five carbon atoms, their esters with alcohols having one to eight carbon atoms, their nitriles or amides, styrene, vinyl or vinylidene chloride, and vinyl esters of monocarboxylic acids having one to eighteen carbon atoms, and 2 to 10% by weight of at least one N-alkylolamide of a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acid having three to five carbon atoms e.g. 90 to 98% by weight of at least one ester of a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acid having three to five carbon atoms and an alcohol having one to eight carbon atoms and, possibly, at least one monomer selected from styrene, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile, and methacrylonitrile and 2 to 10% by weight of at least one N-methylolamide of a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acid having three to five carbon atoms. The emulsion copolymer for the subcoating may have added to it 0.5 to 10% of its weight of at least one inorganic acid and/or organic acid and/or acid-reacting salts. The polyolefine may be a homopolymer or copolymer of monoolefins having 2 to 5 carbon atoms e.g. ethylene or propylene. The polyolefine may constitute a layer on a substrate e.g. nonwoven fabric, fabrics of natural and synthetic fibres, paper, cardboard, cotton cloth, and films or sheeting of semi-synthetic and synthetic materials. Solutions or dispersions of the copolymer of the subcoating may be applied by brushing, spraying, knife coating, rolling or trowelling.
